Everyday, you crawl into the night. A fallen angel, with your wings set alight. When you hit the ground, everything turns to blue. I can't get through the smoke that's surrounding you. 'Cause when you're falling, I cant tell which way is down. And when you're screaming, somehow I don't hear a sound. And when you're seeing things, then your feet don’t touch the ground. 'Cause when you're falling, I can't tell which way is down. I can see through the clouds. I can walk right through the walls. Hang me off the ceiling, but I can't take the fall. Should I cross the river, when I may get swept away? Out there on the water, you can still see me wave. I can see all those things. My feet don't touch the ground. |
A lot has happened on all fronts since last I wrote, so I guess a little "State of the Ryan Address" is in order. First and foremost, I've decided to work for Northrop Grumman. I'll be moving out to Los Angeles at the end of May. I'm going to attend USC to get my Masters in EE starting in the fall. My trip out there was a lot of fun, and driving around southern California for a few days really sold me on the location. The mountains and the ocean are beautiful, and when I get there it's probably going to take me a while to get used to them being so close. I also spent a day making a few jumps out at Perris Valley, which was fun. Its enormous size is something else I'm going to have to get used to out there, but once I do I'm sure it will be wonderful. I've filled out a whole bunch of paperwork, and I've got a whole bunch more to go to get the job itself settled, get my application to USC settled, and get my government security clearance taken care of. Classes last semester ended without much of a story. I did well for the semester, and with one more to go I feel like I'm graduating tomorrow. I've gotten a taste of all my classes this semester, and I think they're going to be fun. I have a lot of programming ahead of me this semester, but at this point I feel confident I can handle just about anything a class can throw at me. I'll likely update in a couple weeks after I see how the work pans out. Skydiving has been really slow as of late. My cypres is still in for its service, so I don't have a rig to jump. Weather has been troublesome anyway, so even with a rig there haven't been many opportunities. My protrack is still floating around in USPS limbo, and getting it is proving troublesome. Making shirts for the club is turning out to be a real pain. I'd like to make shirts for the serious club members that I see more of, but if anyone shares that mindset I wouldn't know it. It seems more souvenirish shirts are what we're going to end up making, and I don't feel like I'm ever going to be happy with the end result if that's the case. I'm going through a bit of a 'blah' period in the sport I guess. Something's eating me and I really wish I knew what it was so I could address it. I know part of it is just because I had such a lazy winter break, and when I'm sitting around doing nothing I just start feeling like crap. And when I feel like crap, I sit around doing nothing. A bad cycle, no doubt, and it screws with my sleep and my energy during the day. I think it's going to take me a little time to get back in the swing of things, back on a schedule, back doing school work, back making skydives, back giving a shit about this website, back to life so-to-speak. Well, time I got. |
